Board of Education Approves Policies and Sends Others Out for Public Input at June Meeting
Gabrielle Brown

Guilford County, N.C. – The Guilford County Board of Education Policy Committee sent the following policies out for a 30-day public input period.

Proposed revisions to Policy 1510/4200/7270 School Safety clarify employee obligations in regard to maintaining safe schools through supervision, hazard reporting, emergency preparedness, and threat assessment protocols.

If approved, changes to Policy 2342 Voting Methods updates language on how the Board of Education votes on matters in different scenarios including both in person and virtually.

Changes to Policy 3225/4312/7320 Technology Responsible Use outline expectations for the use of Guilford County Schools technology by students and staff and updates language surrounding consequences of policy violations.

The Policy Committee also recommends revisions to Policy 3420 Student Promotion and Accountability. The updated policy reflects a change to State Board policy which allows students to earn a numeric grade for credit recovery. This grade will be factored into the pre-existing incomplete or failed course grade on the student’s transcript.

If approved, Policy 4040/7310 Staff Student Relations would update reporting standards to the State Board of Education for staff misconduct.

The public can submit input on the following policies by emailing boardclerk@gcsnc.com. The Board will consider the policies at its August meeting.
